Sac City, IA (April 15, 2025) – Loring Hospital is set to host a “snack and learn” event entitled, “Expert Foot and Ankle Care,” at 2 p.m. on May 7 at the hospital’s downtown meeting space located at 119 North Fifth Street in Sac City. The event will feature guest speaker, Dr. Mindi Dayton, DPM, MHA, FACFAS, who will share her extensive expertise in foot and ankle health.
Dr. Dayton, a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and co-founder of the Foot & Ankle Center of Iowa, is nationally recognized for her contributions to bunion surgery and patient-centered care. She earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Des Moines University and completed her surgical residency at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. In 2017, alongside her husband, Dr. Paul Dayton, she established the Foot & Ankle Center of Iowa with a mission to provide innovative, evidence-based treatments for foot and ankle conditions. Their clinic is renowned for pioneering techniques in bunion surgery, particularly the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction.
During the session, Dr. Dayton will discuss the comprehensive services offered by the Foot & Ankle Center of Iowa, including treatment for foot and ankle pain, sports injuries, diabetic foot care, pediatric foot conditions, and more.
Dr. Dayton will also highlight their innovative approach to bunion correction using Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction, a groundbreaking advancement in foot surgery. Unlike traditional bunion procedures—which typically involve shaving off the bony bump or making a simple cut and shift in the bone—Lapiplasty addresses the true root cause of the deformity: an unstable joint at the base of the metatarsal bone. Rather than focusing solely on the cosmetic appearance, Lapiplasty uses specially designed instrumentation to realign the entire bone in three dimensions, restoring normal anatomy and function to the foot. This precise correction not only improves long-term stability but also greatly reduces the risk of recurrence, allowing patients to return to activity with improved confidence and comfort. Dr. Dayton is excited to announce that their surgical team will soon be performing these advanced procedures at Loring Hospital, bringing top-tier foot and ankle care to the Sac City community.
In addition to outlining available services, Dr. Dayton will provide valuable insights on maintaining optimal foot health. Her presentation will cover:
Shoe Selection: Guidance on choosing footwear that supports foot structure and function.
Injury Prevention: Strategies to avoid common foot and ankle injuries.
Overall Foot Health Maintenance: Tips to keep your feet healthy, comfortable, and pain-free.
The Foot & Ankle Center of Iowa team includes Dr. Mindi Dayton, Dr. Paul Dayton, Dr. Jesseka Kaldenberg-Leppert, and Dr. Jeffrey Olson, who will serve as the primary provider at Loring Hospital’s podiatry specialty clinic. With a commitment to making expert foot and ankle care accessible, the Foot & Ankle Center of Iowa proudly serves patients across central Iowa with locations in Fort Dodge, Ankeny, Grimes, and Des Moines. The addition of surgical services at Loring Hospital further expands their reach, ensuring that patients in Sac City and surrounding communities can receive the same high-quality, specialized care closer to home.
This event is an excellent opportunity for community members to learn about the latest advancements in foot and ankle care and how these services will be more accessible than ever at Loring Hospital.
The program is open to the public at no cost. Light refreshments will be provided for all attendees. For questions, please contact Teresa Wirtjers at 712-662-6419 or twirtjers@loringhosp.org.
